About Senior Care Help

What Is Senior Care Help?

An independent, plain-language guide for families choosing long-term care for an older adult in the United States. It compares all 14,690 nursing homes certified by Medicare or Medicaid on CMS's own star ratings, staffing, inspections, fines and quality measures (CMS data processed August 2026), and explains how assisted living, memory care and Medicaid long-term care work in each state. Senior Care Help is not a care provider or a referral service, and no facility pays to appear.

Need Help Right Now?

If someone is in danger, call 911. To report suspected abuse or neglect in a nursing home or assisted living, contact your state's Long-Term Care Ombudsman or Adult Protective Services. For free help finding local aging services, including meals, transportation, caregiver support and in-home help, call the Eldercare Locator at 1-800-677-1116.

Who This Site Is for

Adult children, spouses and other family members who are helping an older person decide where to live and how to get care. Maybe a parent is leaving the hospital and needs rehab, a spouse with dementia needs more supervision than you can give at home, or you're trying to work out whether Medicare, Medicaid or the VA will pay. The pages here answer those questions directly and link the official place to check each one.

What You'll Find Here

  • A nursing home finder covering 14,690 homes, searchable by ZIP code. Filter by CMS star ratings (5,766 homes are rated 4 or 5 stars overall), inspections and penalties (7,915 have no fines or payment denials on record), staffing, antipsychotic use, ownership and payment (14,151 are Medicaid certified).
  • State pages for 53 states and territories, each with its nursing home ratings and the state's assisted living and memory care licensing, Medicaid long-term care limits and waivers, Long-Term Care Ombudsman and aging services. City pages cover 6,912 cities with at least one nursing home.
  • 26 plain-language guides across 4 topics (Types of Care, Paying for Care, Choosing a Facility, Caregiving), built from CMS, Medicare.gov, Medicaid.gov, the Administration for Community Living, the National Institute on Aging, the VA and state agencies.
  • 4 free tools: Nursing Home Finder, Nursing Home Comparison, Medicaid Long-Term Care Checker, Care Options Guide. They run in your browser and send nothing to the site.

Every nursing home figure is what CMS publishes on Care Compare. The How We Research page explains where each fact comes from and what each filter means.

What This Site Is Not

Senior Care Help is a private website. It is not run by, connected to or endorsed by CMS, Medicare or any other part of government. It isn't a nursing home, home care agency or placement service. It doesn't run an intake line, match families with facilities or pass your details to anyone.

The phone number on a nursing home listing is the home's own number as CMS publishes it, so when you call, you reach the home directly. The only other numbers on the site are free public lines, such as 911, the Eldercare Locator and state agencies.

The site gives information, not medical, legal or financial advice. It doesn't assess anyone's memory or health or tell you which care is right for one person. Those are decisions to make with the person's doctor, and for Medicaid planning or legal documents, with an elder law attorney or your state Medicaid agency.

Who Writes and Checks These Pages

Pages are researched, written and checked by the Senior Care Help Editorial Team. Every fact on a page is recorded with the official source it came from and the date it was checked, and automated checks confirm that figures trace back to those records before a page is published. The How We Research page sets out which sources are used and which never are.

The editorial team is not a clinical or legal team. For decisions about one person's care, talk with their doctor or care team. The Eldercare Locator at 1-800-677-1116 can connect you with your local Area Agency on Aging.

Who Publishes the Site

Senior Care Help is published by Rupe Enterprises LLC, a Washington company.

How the Site Is Paid for

The site is free to use. It is paid for by display ads from Google AdSense, each marked by Google's own ad label. Ads never appear inside or between nursing home listings, and no advertiser has a say in what a page says. Facilities can't pay to be listed, ranked or featured. If a paid offer is ever added, it will be labelled "Sponsored" and kept apart from the listings. The advertising disclosure has the details.

How Pages Are Checked and Corrected

The editorial policy sets out the standards every page meets. If a guide or state page looks wrong, send a correction through the contact form with the page and, if you can, the official source that shows the right detail. If a nursing home's own data is wrong, the fix goes through CMS and the state survey agency, and the How We Research page explains how.

You can also look up any nursing home on CMS's own Medicare Care Compare.
